PPG has introduced Nexa Autocolor P190-6920 Production Clearcoat, an easy-to-use clearcoat designed for exceptional throughput and engineered specifically for use over AQUABASE® Plus waterborne basecoat. The new clearcoat is now available throughout the United States and Canada and is compliant with VOC requirements in all regions of North America.

“The launch of P190-6920 Production Clearcoat marks a significant advance in automotive refinish technology,” said Tim Jones, PPG manager, water collision segment, automotive refinish. “We’ve formulated this premium clearcoat to match perfectly with Aquabase Plus and deliver the exceptional finishes PPG customers expect. Collision centers incorporating P190-6920 into their system will appreciate the fast process times and energy-saving qualities that can increase productivity and provide consistently beautiful results.”

Jones added that P190-6920 allows easy application by utilizing the same hardener and thinners as the popular Nexa Autocolor clearcoats P190-6930 and P190-6950. Further, he noted that P190-6920 allows exceptional throughput on repairs up to four panels, with a minimal bake time of just twenty minutes. The clearcoat features an energy-saving lower force-dry temperature of 120°F and is a time-saver in the booth: Panels coated with P190-6920 can be reassembled after an air-dry period of 90 minutes to two hours. The process ultimately yields an excellent appearance out of bake, with no polishing required and superb gloss retention.

PPG EC520 En-V® High Production Clearcoat, a state-of-the-art clearcoat designed expressly for use with ENVIROBASE® High Performance basecoat, has made its debut. Introduced by Tim Jones, PPG manager, water collision segment, automotive refinish, the new clearcoat has been added to the PPG En-V brand lineup of clearcoats and is now available throughout the United States and Canada.

EC520 features an advanced resin technology designed for use with waterborne basecoats and is intended to provide the performance demanded by high-production collision centers, with no compromise in finish quality. It is formulated to comply with requirements in all North American regions.

“If exceptional quality and high efficiency in a clearcoat are something a collision center wants, then EC520 deserves a close look,” said Jones. “This new En-V clearcoat—the latest addition to our versatile En-V platform—has been engineered to ensure easy use, generate superior productivity and yield dependable high-level results. We’re very excited about offering it, and I believe our customers will be very pleased with how it performs.”

Ideal for multi-panel repairs, EC520 is designed with the newest En-V platform resin and provides impressive gloss retention and film integrity. A fast bake cycle heightens productivity. The clear force-dries at temperatures as low as 120ºF in as little as 20 minutes. If air drying, EC520 is ready for assembly in only 90 minutes to two hours and can be buffed after cool-down. Polishing is not normally required. A beautiful appearance with impressive gloss retention is the result. For added convenience and efficiency, EC520 uses the same hardeners and reducers as EC530 and EC550.

Incorporating breakthrough, proprietary resin technology, PPG’s En-V® lineup of premium clearcoats allows you to select the right clearcoat for the specific job while raising the industry bar for meeting these performance criteria.

En-V clears are specifically engineered to go over and work beautifully with the industry-leading ENVIROBASE® High Performance waterborne basecoat system and consists of three premium clears that can be used anywhere in the US and Canada. Let’s take look at the features and benefits of each.

EC520 En-V High Production Clearcoat

EC520 En-V High Production Clearcoat is the “speed” clear of the line, delivering the fast throughput demanded by high-production collision centers, while still providing impressive gloss retention. It is designed for use in one-to-three panel repairs. As the line’s fastest clearcoat, it can be forced dried in as little 20 minutes at temperatures as low as 120° F. If air drying, EC520 takes only 90 to 120 minutes to reassemble, and polishing normally isn't necessary.

EC530 En-V Performance Clearcoat

EC530 En-V Performance Clearcoat is also a high production clear designed for multi-panel repairs. It features a short bake cycle of 25 minutes at 140°F. Or when desired, it can air dry in 4 hours. In addition to excellent throughput on multiple panels, EC530 offers the ability to do “completes” in cool and mid-range temperatures. Gloss retention is outstanding for a production clearcoat. Again, polishing is not necessary.

EC550 En-V Ultra Gloss Clearcoat

EC550 En-V Ultra Gloss Clearcoat is engineered to deliver super premium appearance on today’s luxury vehicles or whenever ultimate gloss is desired. Offering superb flow and leveling, EC550 can be used for multiple panels but also for “overall” clearcoat jobs. Ultimate gloss and leveling requires a clear to “stay open”-- and it’s this key feature that makes EC550 the “go to” clear to use in hot weather and humid conditions, even when painting completes. EC550 force dries in 35 minutes…and no polishing is required.

The En-V clearcoat line-up features 3 premium products setting the standard for performance and appearance – with the flexibility to select the right product for the conditions at hand and to maximize a shops productivity.

Now, one universal hardener and four temperature-specific reducers are designed to work specifically with En-V series clears:

  • ECR65 Low Temp Reducer
  • ECR75 Mid Temp Reducer
  • ECR85 High Temp Reducer
  • ECR98 Hot and Humid Reducer

With this choice of reducers, painters can select the one that works best for the temperature and humidity of the shop – cool, warm or hot. For simplicity, the 3-to-1-to-1 mix ratio is the same, no matter which reducer you choose.

PPG’s En-V clearcoats are specifically engineered for the Envirobase High Performance waterborne basecoat system that can be used anywhere in the United States and Canada to achieve superior color match performance. The En-V lineup of premium clearcoats with advanced resin technology bridge the gap between throughput and appearance, offering a solution for every type of refinishing, from spot repair to overalls in all temperature conditions.

PPG has expanded its ADJUSTRITE® commercial estimating system Commercial Parts Listing Program with the addition of LKQ Corporation to its supplier data base. LKQ—a leading provider of alternative and specialty parts for the repair of trucks, automobiles and other vehicles—has been a parts source for AdjustRite customers since 2008 and now enhances its presence through the listing program.

The Commercial Parts Listing Program, a key component of the AdjustRite system, allows suppliers to post their parts catalogues and inventories online, giving truck fleets, repair facilities, insurers and claims personnel the ability to check parts availability and pricing at the same time that an AdjustRite estimate is being prepared. The easy-to-use program is available to all system customers and covers aftermarket, recycled, reconditioned and new take-off (NTO) parts, components LKQ specializes in distributing.

“We’ve worked with AdjustRite for several years and are pleased to expand our role within the program,” said Steve Simmons, region vice president of LKQ Corporation’s Heavy Truck division. “We know the AdjustRite supplier network is made up of quality-focused suppliers, and we are pleased to be involved. We look forward to providing AdjustRite customers with the products and value they expect and deserve.”

“It’s a pleasure to add LKQ Corporation to our parts resource network,” said Ryan Woolfenden, PPG marketing manager, commercial value-added programs. “AdjustRite is the only commercial estimating program designed especially for heavy-duty truck repairs and provides users with the opportunity to make immediate comparisons of components. With LKQ as an available resource, our customers have direct access to a company internationally recognized for its parts quality, variety and competitive pricing.”

According to Woolfenden, AdjustRite simplifies the entire repair process with its speedy estimating and sourcing capabilities. He adds that AdjustRite benefits commercial parts providers by giving them direct access to the repair facilities, fleets, insurance companies, independent adjusting companies and third-party administrators making parts decisions along with the heightened visibility such contact yields.
