PPG (NYSE:PPG) has named Colours, Inc., its automotive refinish 2019 Platinum Distributor of the Year. The annual award honors the distributor that demonstrates outstanding performance, loyalty, product knowledge, and customer service and support.

John Parran, PPG director, Platinum Distributor program, U.S. and Canada, recently presented the award to Colours at the annual PPG Platinum Distributor Conference. The annual conference brings together PPG platinum distributors from across the United States and Canada. This year’s event marked the program’s 25th anniversary.

Colours, Inc., is the recipient of PPG’s automotive refinish 2019 Platinum Distributor of the Year award.
Receiving the award on behalf of Colours are (from left) Bill Snipas, vice president of operations;
Tim Evans, president; Ali Mahalak, chief financial officer; and Brian Marcks, vice president of sales.

“The Platinum Distributor of the Year award recognizes the overall success of the Platinum Distributor program in our automotive refinish business and, in particular, one special distributor,” said Parran. “Our platinum distributors work hard throughout the year, and we applaud their efforts and achievements. In 2019, Colours demonstrated all the qualities that exemplify the spirit of the PPG Platinum Distributor program.”

Tim Evans, president, accepted the award on behalf of Colours, which is based in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He was accompanied by his daughter, Ali Mahalak, chief financial officer; Bill Snipas, vice president of operations; and Brian Marcks, vice president of sales. It was the second time Colours received the award, having been named the 2003 Platinum Distributor of the Year.

“It’s an honor to accept this award, but this isn’t just my award,” said Evans. “I’m thrilled to bring this back to everyone at Colours. Their work, success and dedication are what really allow us to take home this trophy. Much like the STANLEY CUP®, we’ll be taking the trophy to each of our 36 locations over the coming months so all our employees can appreciate what they’ve earned. Thank you, PPG, for naming Colours the Platinum Distributor of the Year.”

Colours maintains a firm commitment to growth and training. In June 2019, the company opened a $6 million, 50,000-square-foot (4,645-square-meter) warehouse that includes 10,000 square feet (929 square meters) of administrative office space. A state-of-the-art learning center in the new facility provides Colours associates and customers with a site suitable for a variety of training opportunities. PPG regularly uses the site for classes, as do several schools and industry organizations.

Colours takes part in PPG MVP offerings, ensuring its employees stay up to date with PPG product advances and the latest operational trends. Colours is also firmly committed to the Platinum Distributor program. Evans was one of the original members of the Platinum Council, and Mahalak represents Colours on the current council.

Other PPG representatives at the Platinum Distributor Conference were Michael H. McGarry, PPG chairman and CEO; Tim Knavish, PPG executive vice president; Chancey Hagerty, PPG vice president, global automotive refinish; Greg Benckart, PPG vice president, chief commercial officer, automotive refinish, Americas; and Tom Maziarz, PPG vice president, automotive refinish, Americas.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, March 31, 2020
PPG (NYSE:PPG) has launched its new Automotive Refinish training website in Canada. Designed to serve as a comprehensive source of information about the company’s robust training program and supporting material, the site went live on March 26. It replaces the Training section of the current PPG automotive refinish website.

The new website was designed with the customer in mind, intended for PPG distributors, collision centers, paint technicians and vocational students. The site focuses on the PPG training course curriculum, online how-to videos, certifications and instructor bios and allows online registration for classes. The site also offers access to student transcripts and pertinent PPG and industry news. With easy-to-use primary navigation, site visitors can quickly find the information they require.

“PPG has the largest and most complete training program in the refinish industry,” said Norm Angrove, PPG director, Refinish Canada, “More than 12,000 people attend PPG training classes every year, and there’s a lot for our customers to keep up with. When we see an opportunity to make things more convenient for them, we act on it. This new website, devoted specifically to training, is easy to navigate and provides the most current information on our training programs.”

According to Angrove, each website topic provides a wide range of critical material. The Courses section, for example, details the training classes offered for automotive and commercial refinishing systems and collision repair management. Site visitors can search for courses by paint brand, type of class or location — usually one of PPG’s 16 Business Development Centers across North America. In addition, PPG training instructors are highly regarded refinish experts. Their qualifications are displayed on the site. Visitors can find the expert class instructor with the experience that matches their needs.

PPG Certification Training is a key part of PPG's commitment to ensure that automotive and commercial refinish technicians stay up to date with the latest products, processes and techniques for maximizing a paint shop's productivity and quality. The website lists all automotive and commercial refinish technical certification classes. Distributor Technical Representative Certification classes, available exclusively to PPG Platinum Distributors, are also listed, as are industry certification opportunities for students.

Angrove notes that the site also provides helpful SOP videos, technical articles and tips, training manuals and more.

“Training involves more than classes, so we’ve made sure there’s plenty of technical information right on the website, said Angrove. “We also want to help our students monitor their training records. If they’ve attended a PPG training course, they can access their training transcripts or update their information on the site. They can see when they last attended certification training, determine when they’re due to take recertification training and keep their certification status current. And our News section gives everyone the chance to stay up to date with the latest industry news, learn about products and procedures, new course offerings and special events. It’s all here.”

The PPG training website is up and accessible. For more information about the refinish training PPG offers, visit ca.ppgrefinish.com/Training.
